About your Midwife

Meet Penny

Thirty years of Midwifery, now given entirely to the weeks that so often go unheld — the fourth trimester, in your own home, with one familiar face beside you.

Hello, I'm Penny Watson

I have sat beside a great many women

More than thirty years of supporting new families has taught me one thing above all: the birth is not the finish line. What happens in the weeks afterwards — how gently you are held, how well things are explained, whether anyone truly listens — shapes how you remember this whole time of your life.

So that is where I have chosen to put my whole practice. With You Midwifery is dedicated, in-home postnatal support, start to finish. I am a Medicare Eligible Midwife and an IBCLC-accredited Lactation Consultant, which means feeding support from me is not a nice extra — it is a recognised clinical qualification, backed by international standards and kept current through ongoing professional education.

I built this practice on one simple idea: that you deserve one trusted, genuinely current expert voice in those first weeks. Not a new face, and not a new opinion, every time you need help.

Matrescence

A time of great change deserves great care

“Becoming a mother is a transition, not a task. You are not behind, and nothing about you needs fixing — you are being remade, and that deserves proper care.”

We have a word for the change of adolescence, and we make room for it. Matrescence is the same order of change — hormonal, physical, emotional, relational, whole-identity — and yet it is expected to happen quietly, in a fortnight, between visitors.

I do not think that is good enough. My care holds both of you at once: your baby's feeding, weight and behaviour, and your own healing, your sleep, your confidence and how you are truly travelling. Some visits are all about the latch. Some are mostly about you. Both are Midwifery, and both matter.

My philosophy of care

With woman, all the way through

As the very definition of Midwife says: with woman. My role is to work beside you, so that you and your baby can do what you are already built to do together.

Normal, until it isn’t

Most of what worries you is your baby doing exactly what newborns do. I will tell you plainly when something needs more, and I will tell you honestly when it does not.

Current, never inherited

Evidence moves on. What I share with you is grounded in current research and in your own baby in front of us — not in how things were once done.

One trusted person

The same Midwife, every single visit. I know your story, your birth and your baby, so you never have to start again from the beginning.
